The 1st IUFRO Division 3 Doctoral Student Conference aims to foster a community among doctoral students in forest operations/engineering that encourages sharing knowledge, professionalism, and collaboration. The entire conference is student oriented, where attendees will have ample opportunity to present their doctoral research work and receive feedback from peers. Designed for young, smart, and energetic researchers, this event will be anything but boring. Time has been reserved for field trips to OSU McDonald Dunn Forests, tours to the Oregon Coast, and lots of socializing (including sampling the many fine Oregon microbrews). Regardless of your hectic summer schedule, don't miss out on this opportunity! Only 20 students wil be admitted to this exclusive event. We look forward to receiving your abstract submission and hope to see you in Oregon in August!
Requirements: If you are accepted for attendance at this event, it will be required that you give a 30-minute oral presentation, in English, about your current doctoral research. You will also be required to bring a printed poster (English) that details your research. Posters should be no larger than 4x6 feet. More information about each of these will be sent to you with your notification of acceptance.
Dates: Monday, August 29th through Friday, September 2nd
Location: Oregon State University (OSU) in Corvallis, Oregon
Air Travel: You will be responsible for the cost of air travel to the United States. The most convenient airport to travel to will be Portland International Airport (PDX). You should plan to arrive at the airport on the afternoon of Sunday, August 28th in order to attend the welcome ceremony at OSU that evening. (Corvallis is about 90 miles from the airport. See below for information about the airport shuttle.)
Ground Transportation: We will provide ground transportation to and from PDX. During the registration process, you will be asked for your flight information and we will make a reservation for you for the shuttle based on your arrival and departure times.
Lodging: Lodging will be provided at OSU's International Living Learning Center. You will have your own bedroom and will share a bathroom with one other attendee of the same gender. Pillows, linens and towels will be provided. Please request any special accommodations by August 1st. Lodging is available one day after and one day before (in the same dormitory) through the conference, but the fee for additional days (August 27th or September 3rd) will be your responsibility ($35/night). . If will be in Corvallis for days before August 27th or after September 3rd, you will need to arrange off-campus lodging. There are lots of hotels in Corvallis, or you can search for options on Air BnB.
Meals: Most meals will be provided during your stay. There will be a few nights that you will be on your own for dinner, so please take that into account when planning for your trip.
Visa Information: To determine if you will need a visa to attend this conference, please check the list of visa waiver countries. If your country is on the list, a visa is not required.
